Get to Know Ellen G. White

Throughout the Bible, God in his mercy, love, and kindness, used fellow humans to call His wayward people back to Him when they went astray. God used Jonah to warn the people of Nineveh to turn from their wicked ways. God used Isaiah to bring a message of judgment and hope to the people of Judah. God used John the Baptist to prepare the people for the coming of Jesus. God used Deborah, (one of 7 women in the Bible that were prophets) to lead the Israelites to victory against the Canaanites. Her faith and wisdom were an encouragement to the Israelites as she led them to battle. God used Elijah to summon his people back to Him and away from the heathen gods after which they had wandered.

The Bible says, “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”(Amos 3:7). God still operates in this manner today, because He loves us and does not want to see us lost. In 1842 God first called two men to the prophetic office, but they ultimately rejected the call. Then God called a young girl named Ellen Harmon (later Ellen White). She accepted God’s calling.

She and many other were instrumental in raising awareness of God’s seventh-day Sabbath, which God instituted in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 20:11). Health reform and right living were major features of her writings. She died in 1915, leaving behind a total of 40 books she wrote, 100,000 pages of letters and manuscript assembled into over 200 different book titles. Her writing also includes thousands of articles for periodicals, pamphlets, and tracts. Her books are archived in the U.S. Library of Congress.

Unfortunately, she has many critics who have nurtured an unreasoning bias against her writings, often misperceiving her views on certain topics and taking her words out of context. God’s servants in every age have always confronted this. My advice is, read her quotes on this website to see for yourself if her teachings align with the Word of God. Don’t take a disgruntled person’s word, online or elsewhere, as final. In particular I recommend a book of hers called The Great Controversy. There is a link to it below.
