Keys to Overcome

  1. Identify in your life and character what you need to overcome.  Pray and ask God: “what is the sins in my life that would disqualify me from Heaven?”  Go ahead, right now.

  2. Spend a moment and listen for that still small voice of the Holy Spirit: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” – Isaiah 30:21  This is a promise from God that He will give direction when you are unsure of something.  This is one of my favorite scriptures that I use often.   Try it.

  3. “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” -Proverbs 24:16  When you sin again, immediately say out-loud, “God, Forgive Me” and go about your day.  God will not violate your freedom of choice.  You must ask forgiveness as soon as the sin is committed. Don’t wait till the end of the day to say your prayers and ask for a general forgiveness of your sins.  It didn’t work that way for me.  But God did work when I asked forgiveness immediately.   “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9 This is the definition of “Grace”.  Grace = Gods forgiveness and enabling power to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  4. Believe that God HAS given you the victory over that sin. “..if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” -1 John 5:14  We know it is “God’s will” that you overcome sin.  He wants you in Heaven with Him.  You are His child.  “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -Corinthians 15:57  You currently Have Christs Victory/His Strength/His Power to overcome!  You are letting the mind of Christ be in you.  “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” -Philippians 2:5  When you are tempted to think, say or do something wrong, overcome evil with good.  “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” -Romans 12:21  Your then are using Christ’s Victory, the same Victory Jesus used when he was on this earth to overcome your sins.  This is preparing you for Heaven.  “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” -Philippians 4:13

GraceToOvercome.org encourages everyone to read and listen to the Bible.  It is Gods word.  It is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. -Psalm 119:105.  We get to know God by spending time reading and listening to His word.  The Bible reveals Gods character to us and transforms our character at the same time.  It is the source of strength and truth, it offers us promises, it builds faith, and offers grace, which is, God’s forgiveness and enabling power to overcome every sin.  “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

-Psalm 119:11.  Jesus often quoted scripture.  He came to this earth to show us how to overcome sin and defeat the devil.  When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, one of the keys Jesus used to overcame the devil was by quoting scripture.  When we are tempted, we must do the same.

The Bible says: “Put on the full armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” -Ephesians 6:11.   Gods armor includes the Belt of truth, Breastplate of righteousness, Shoes of the gospel of peace, Shield of faith, Helmet of salvation and the Sword of the spirit. -Ephesians 6:10-18.  All the Armor of God can be yours by reading and getting to know the word of God for yourself.  Jesus is like the best teacher you had in school who gives you the answers to the test.  The Bible is the answer sheet for the ultimate life tests Satan will confront you with.  If you do not spend time and get to know the answers from your Bible, you will fail each test.   Let’s study the Bible to know what God has in store for us, know His promises, know what His will is for our lives and to know the conditions of salvation.

Keys to Overcome Sin

Know your Bible for yourself.
Read or listen to your Bible every day.  Jesus is the word, the way, the truth and the life.  This is where you daily receive Gods Power, Strength to get the Victory over sin.  Stay connected to God by reading or listening to Gods word every day.  Jesus overcome Satan in the wilderness by quoting scripture: “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” -Matthew 4:4  Read or Listen to your Bible every day.

“Those who love the word of God are those who read it most. By reading and searching out scripture references, you will see the chain of truth, and will see new beauties in the word of God. While you make the Scriptures more your study, and become more familiar with them, you will be better fortified against the temptations of Satan. When inclined to speak, or act, wrong, some scripture will come to arrest you, and turn you right. It is not natural for the heart to love the Bible; but when it is renewed by grace, then the mind will feast upon the rich truths and promises contained in the word of God.”

Surrender your will to God every morning.

Surrendering you will to God in the morning is essential to overcome sin in your life.  Most people have a strong will.  It’s “whatever I want”.  But surrendering your will (giving your will to God) is a statement that you want God to orchestrate your day for you.  God knows what is best for us.  He will orchestrate our day for us if we ask Him.  Even though it may not seem like your day is going well, God is still in control of your day.  He knows the future and we don’t.  For example: He may cause you to get in a traffic jam even though your late for work just to prevent you from an accident up ahead.   Or, it could be the most tragic thing happens to you or a loved one.  God’s ultimate goal is to save us all in Heaven.  We don’t know the future, but God does, and we must trust that He is in control and knows what’s best for us even thought it may not always seem like it at the time.  Jesus surrendered his will to God: “…not my will, but thine, be done.” -Luke 22:42  Surrender your will to God every morning.

“The ways of the Lord are obscure to him who desires to see things in a pleasing light to himself. God can discern the end of his purpose from the beginning; but because the Lord’s ways are not man’s ways, they appear dark, severe, and painful to our human natures. But God’s ways are ways of mercy, and their end is salvation and blessedness.”

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” -1 Thessalonians 5:18

Persistent Prayer.

The Bible says: “Pray without ceasing.” -Thessalonians 5:17  Always have a prayer on your lips.  Pray for protection against the evil forces. Pray for wisdom.  Pray to receive the Holy Spirit.  Pray for discernment.  Pray for your own spiritual needs.  Pray for others.  Pray for your friends, relatives, neighbors.  Pray for the people in the Bus with you.  Pray for the Bus driver.  Pray for your coworkers.  Pray for the person coming toward you on the road.  Pray for the person pumping gas on the other side of the pump.  Pray for the people in the supermarket with you.  Pray for your leaders.  Pray for your country.  Pray for your pastor.  Pray for your church members, or even pray that God will lead you to the right church.  God is more that willing to answer your prayers if you ask.  By keeping a prayer on your lips, God is renewing your mind, heard and spirit and blessing other in the process.  Jesus prayed without ceasing.

Fasting

According to a web search:  the benefits of fasting include weight loss, cellular repair, and improvements in metabolic and cardiovascular health

  • Fasting, especially in the form of intermittent fasting, triggers a metabolic shift in the body that can lead to these positive effects.

Weight management

  • Weight loss: Intermittent fasting has been shown to be an effective strategy for weight loss, particularly for those who are overweight or obese. By restricting eating to a specific time window, fasting can help reduce overall calorie intake.
  • Reduced hunger: Fasting can lead to a reduction in hunger hormones, such as ghrelin, helping to keep hunger levels more consistent throughout the day.
  • Boosts metabolism: Fasting can increase thyroid hormone production and improve leptin sensitivity, which can boost a sluggish metabolism.

Metabolic health

  • Improved insulin sensitivity: Studies have shown that fasting can lower fasting insulin levels, which helps the body regulate blood sugar more effectively. This reduces the risk of developing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
  • Lower cholesterol: Fasting can lead to a better balance of cholesterol levels by decreasing LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides while potentially raising HDL (“good”) cholesterol.

Cellular repair and anti-aging

  • Autophagy: Fasting triggers a cellular process called autophagy, which is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells and recycling old cellular components. This process is believed to promote healthy aging and protect against disease.
  • Stem cell regeneration: Research suggests that prolonged fasting can trigger the regeneration of new stem cells, which can help renew the immune system.

Cardiovascular health

  • Lowered blood pressure: Multiple studies have observed that intermittent fasting can cause large decreases in blood pressure.
  • Reduced oxidative stress: Fasting may help lower oxidative stress, which causes cellular damage and is a risk factor for heart disease.

Brain function

  • Neuroprotective effects: Animal studies indicate that intermittent fasting may have neuroprotective effects, enhance brain function, and reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
  • Improved sleep: Fasting can lead to better sleep by decreasing stress hormones like cortisol and increasing the sleep hormone melatonin.

Reduced inflammation

  • Suppressed inflammation: Fasting is shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and regulating inflammasomes.
  • Reduced disease risk: By reducing inflammation, fasting can help protect against chronic diseases, such as heart disease, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Potential anti-cancer effects

  • Cellular mechanisms: The autophagy triggered by fasting is believed by some researchers to have anti-cancer properties.
  • Lower growth factor: Fasting can lower levels of IGF-1, a hormone linked to aging and cancer risk.
Important Considerations

It’s important to consult a healthcare professional before beginning a fasting regimen, especially if you have an underlying health condition. While fasting offers many potential benefits, it is not suitable for everyone, particularly those who are pregnant, underweight, or have a history of eating disorders.

Jesus fasted in the wilderness before he was tempted by Satan.

Get involved in Ministering to Others.

Getting involved in ministry is vitally important to overcoming sin in your own life.  It keeps you focused and you learn more by sharing what you know.  It compels you to dig deeper and study more so you can help others in their lives.  Ministry can be anything that helps others on their spiritual journey.  It could be passing out spiritual literature, a YouTube channel, healthful cooking instruction,  addiction recovery program, a bumper sticker on your car, giving Bible studies, a website, helping someone across the street, it could be helping a sick person or an invalid or even sign up to be a prayer warrior on this website.  It could be anything.  Ask God what He wants you to do for ministry.  God will show you.  I may not be right away but He will show you.  “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” -Colossians 3:17  Jesus came to this earth to minister to others.

Eat Healthy and Avoid Stimulants.

We all know we should eat healthy.  It helps our bodies function better, we feel better and gives us clear minds.   Avoid stimulants like caffeinated beverages, coffee, black tea, energy drinks, sodas, alcohol, recreational drugs and even meat.  These are damaging to your health.  Thy fog your mind and prevents you from hearing the still small voice of the Holy Spirit telling you to do right and not to do wrong.  This is extremely important in obtaining a character like Christ and overcoming sin as Christ overcame.  Pray that God will teach you more of His will for you in this matter.  If you have any questions we encourage you email us from our contact us page.

There is only 2 paths.  One leads to Heaven and the other leads to everlasting death, ashes.  Be gracious with people.  Not everyone understands the same things you do, so show love and kindness.  In the proper time, God will open up the opportunity for you to share what you know with others.  Pray that He will create that opportunity for you.
